Principal Technology Engineer
Job Purpose and Impact
The Principal Research Engineer will lead multi disciplinary project teams that develop and transfer new product and new process technologies. In this role, you will apply expertise in process development from bench and pilot scale through commercial scale, design and build at pilot scale and pilot operations management.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide global advisory on design principles including pilot design and technology development packages for commercial builds for chemical and fermentation based processes.
- Lead and coordinate technology development and technology transfer components of projects, with emphasis on the transition from lab scale demonstration to piloting to commercial start up of new manufacturing technology.
- Lead role in safety initiatives, programs and training for a diverse team of project staff and contractors and ensure safety awareness and adherence to company safety policies for piloting, tolling and commercial start up activities.
- Provide consultation for understanding the impact of engineering design and operation conditions on scale up or scale down process streams, generate design criteria and derisk new technology at smaller scales.
- Lead technical development efforts that include business case development, regulatory review, engineering design and construction and pilot plant startup activities of integrated project teams.
- Responsible for pilot assets that includes build planning, management, safety, food safety, compliance and design of pilot unit operations and process integration.

- Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in chemical engineering or related field or equivalent experience,
Experience creating and executing plans to drive organizational results
Confirmed ability for process design and construction of same
Minimum of six years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree
Confirmed business or project management skills
Experience with optimization of biotechnology manufacturing processes and sterile design
Proficiency with plant instrumentation and deploying process control systems
Experience in a manufacturing or process development environment
